Patient
Every person goes through a multi-step process of prosthetic rehabilitation.
Learn about the process and contact the right country to apply for care.
The process begins by contacting the ROMP clinic in your country.

How is vulnerability level determined?
The vulnerability level is calculated with an algorithm in our electronic medical record system, based on the patient’s responses to our standard socioeconomic study.
In Guatemala, the algorithm takes into account:
- The distance from the patient’s home to the clinic
- Whether the patient is a minor of age
- Whether the patient has more than one amputation
- The income per capita in the patient’s home
- The total number of members of the patient’s home
- The type of construction in the patient’s house
- Whether the patient owns their house
- Whether the patient has other disabilities
- Whether other members of the home have major health issues
In Ecuador, the algorithm takes into account:
- The insurance situation of the patient
- Whether the patient owns their house
- Whether the patient lives in a rural or urban area
- The income per capita in the patient’s home
- Whether the patient already has a prosthesis
- The role the patient plays in the family
- Whether the patient has more than one amputation
- Whether the patient has ‘catastrophic’ illness
What is the copayment amount?
The amount of copayment depends on the patient’s vulnerability level and what specific service they need.
What if someone does not qualify?
If a patient is not sufficiently vulnerable to receive care at ROMP, we provide them with a list of certified prosthetists in the private sector and they are free to choose whether and where to proceed with their care.
How can I sponsor a patient’s copayment?
If you are sponsoring the copayment of a specific patient that you referred to ROMP, please contact the country office to make the transaction. Guatemala (guatemala@rompglobal.org) or Ecuador (ecuador@rompglobal.org)
Where can someone from another country or region of the world get care?
Our Global Prosthetics Map provides information about organizations that provide prosthetic care to access-limited patients around the world. (https://vmcarranzam.github.io/globalproviders/)
