Nico Calabria

Nico Calabria is an educator and amputee soccer player from Concord, MA.  He is a graduate of Colorado College and Lesley University with a BA and M.Ed. in Education and is currently employed at The Bionic Project as Lead Educator. Calabria is one of ROMP’s 2024 Ambassador team and plans on using his passions and experiences to help make mobility a human right.

Apart from school, work, and being a ROMP ambassador, Calabria enjoys playing piano, chess, watching birds, hot yoga, and dancing.

Nico's ‘Why’: I got involved with ROMP because I believed in the mission of making mobility accessible to as many people as possible. I was born with one leg and always had the devices I needed to be mobile, independent, and happy. I remember going to Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro in 2007 and seeing the state of disability in that part of the world. I was shocked. Mobility and access to assistive technology is a privilege. ROMP is bringing access to assistive technologies and making meaningful changes one device at a time.

Favorite ROMP Moment: Hearing the stories of my fellow climbers and what this moment and this opportunity meant to them. Feeling the camaraderie around climbing for a cause and doing it with people who all push their own limits but want to give back. Special people in a special place.
